Life's A Twitch! Celebrating 15 years.

Life's A Twitch! Celebrating 15 years.

Questions 58: Hello, I am M. I'm 10 ten years old. I have TS. How long does TS last? ON, Canada.

Hello M!

It is wonderful to get a letter from you my new friend -- I love meeting new members of the TS Club! Welcome to the "family" M!!!!!

Your question about "how long TS lasts" has different answers for everyone. For some people it says good-bye and leaves about the age when you are finishing up high-school. For a lot of other people (like me!) the TS doesn't ever say good-bye: it stays by your side and doesn't ever leave you all the way through life!

For people that get to have their tics their WHOLE LIFE, the tics might be like good friends -- coming by and visiting all the time like they did when these people were young. Sometimes though the tics DON'T come by and visit them as grown-ups nearly as much as they did when these people were young.

Sometimes when the tics decide to leave, all that energy running around in your head that used to give the tics energy needs to find something ELSE to do now. Sometimes that energy goes and gives your THOUGHTS a lot more energy, so you think about certain things a lot more than you used to. Other times it goes and gives your ATTENTION a lot more energy so you pay attention to a lot more things than you used to. It might also give your FEELINGS a lot more energy, or you might find you just HAVE a lot of energy that makes you hyper. So even though you don't get to have the tics anymore, you still get to keep all this energy that you can learn to use to be the best person you can be!

I hope this helps explain things a bit for you M -- I can't tell you when or even if YOUR TS will leave, though, because it will decide all on its own! The best thing to do is to not worry about whether it will leave you or not, and just concentrate on your relationship together NOW!

I'm rooting for you, M!
