Life's A Twitch! Celebrating 15 years.

Question 17: Hello! My name is J. I am 10 years old. I was wondering If you could answer my questions. Well, here they are!

My questions are, Why do people have different tics than others and I was wondering what kind of tics you have? By the way, is it hard to become a doctor because I wanted to become a T.S doctor when I grow up. Thanks {almost} doctor Duncan! Bye! J.M., ON, Canada.

Hi J.M.:

I'm really glad you wrote -- it takes a lot of guts to talk about the differences we have!! Judging from your very good questions you already know a lot more about yourself and like yourself a lot more than when I was your age............keep doing what you are doing and you JUST MIGHT be a TS doctor someday (after all, you've got a head-start on me and I'VE still gotten there..........almost!)

People have different tics because everyone has different lives, and tics are made out of the different things we do! Think of TS as being like a bored little kid up in your head with lots of energy. (S)he's looking around for something to waste some time, and so watches what YOU are up to in order to get some good ideas!

So if you are a person who likes to talk a lot, the TS might decide to make a lot of noise too! On the other hand, if you are a person with long hair and are always whipping your head back to get those darned bangs out of your eyes, the TS might decide THAT looks like a fun thing to do and start into a head-whipping tic!

One of my tics is a snort, and that's because one day I was laughing really hard -- so hard I started snorting when I laughed! The TS was trying to find something new to do that day, and thought snorting was great fun! Another tic I have is a bum wiggle!! One day my underwear was a little tight, and when I wiggled a bit to fix it the TS found that an AWESOME idea.......... sometimes I wish the TS wasn't watching me THAT closely!!!
:-)

I hope this helps you understand TS a little better J. -- it was nice to meet you!
