Life's A Twitch! Celebrating 15 years.
1998 - 2018
Life's A Twitch! Celebrating 15 years.

Question 13: I would be interested in seeing you with [my son], should you become a practising doctor sometime in the future. You seem very knowledgable about the subjects. C.W., Ontario, CA

Hello C.W.:

Believe me I am chomping at the bit to get "out there" and start doing exactly what you ask of me! As of this September (2001) I will be on a one-year internship in Toronto Ontario (Canada) training as a Psychologist. During that time I am arranging to receive supervision as an applicant to the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

Basically what all of this means is that at that time it will be ethical for me to accept clients for consultations, assessments, therapy, etc. because I will be under the guidance of Certified Psychologists while doing so.

Until then I mustunfortunately concentrate on completing my Ph.D. -- being a Doctor of Psychology is a necessary prerequisite (but not sufficient) for becoming a Psychologist in the provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, and BC. Only after fulfilling all requirements of the College (of which having a Ph.D. is only one), passing their 3 exams, and receiving a certain number of hours of supervision will I be a Psychologist in my own right, not requiring supervision.

If it is within reason for you and your son to come into Toronto as of this fall then perhaps we should talk at that time.

Thank you for your belief in my abilities, and I very much hope that someday soon we can put that belief to the test!

cheers and all the best,
Dr. Dunc.
